Lucerne Lovely Light

Weihnachten Christmas Market Lucerne, Switzerland

Lucerne is one spectacular Swiss city and it holds Weihnachten Christmas Market Lucerne!

That goes without saying.

As you remember. I have been travelling in Europe. Earlier in December. I have spend couple of days enjoying Paris. Couple of days in Vienna. By the way ‘La Boheme’ in Viennese Opera was a real treat.

I was in Switzerland and dreamt about couple of days in Italy. But lets don’t go that far. I was in Zurich. And as usual, I was loving it.

Miss Champagne and I decided to visit Lucerne on the weekend. Why? You would ask.

I understand your concern! Majority of people prefer Lucerne in the summer time. I tend to agree. Sipping chilled wine. Observing quiet waters of the Lake Lucerne. Admiring Chapel Bridge – Kapellbrucke. It sounds like a prefect scenario to me as well.

But! There is always a but.

Imagine. A perfect winter day. Gluhweine vendors on every corner. One of the bests in Switzerland, Weihnachten Christmas Market Lucerne. And sun! A lot of sun.

Strolling the streets of Old Town. Shopping for Christmas decoration. Trying delicious cheese. Home-made bread. A short stop for some mulled wine here and there.

Enjoying time with friends. Observing dynamic of the market! Kids shouting from overwhelming happiness before a ride on the carousel. Christmas carols.

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells!
Jingle all the way.
Oh, what fun it is to ride.
In a one horse open sleigh!

Thanks God it is only a blog. Without an audio version. I’m a terrible singer.

Buck to the subject. Lucerne has much more to offer. Richard Wagner Museum for classical music lovers. Hofkirche and Nine Towers for architecture and history freaks.

I promise I will tell you all about it on some other visit. I was planning to check out those places. But my plans changed. It happened that Lucerne was hosting a Design Week. We couldn’t resist checking it out. Shops and galleries. Quirky furnitures and accessorises, such as wooden glasses.

Lucerne is a great city to visit in the winter time. If you still hesitate. I have something what will change your mind.

Imagine amazing Swiss mountains, covered in snow, resting like tired giants on the shores of the lakes. The 45 minutes train ride from Zurich to Lucerne and back is filled with those spectacular views.

  3. Lucerne is really a beautiful city, I lived in Lausanne for a while and visited several times. The lake and this wooden bridge are so nice! The only thing is that I lived there in 1999, omg one and a half decade ago:) and I have never gone back to Switzerand since then.

I have a question, I don`t know German language, but my English seems to be nice – I don`t have troubles in countries where English is most important language. Will I “survive” with English only in Switzerland?

Wow seems like quite the place! I’ve talked to many people from Switzerland and whenever I ask about it, they say I’ve just got to visit. Can’t wait to make it over to Europe!

  6. We haven’t done much exploring in Europe yet. But after a recent meeting with “The Best of the Alps” representatives, we might have to add Switzerland to our list.
