Vacation Paradise Alcúdia

Introducing Alcúdia

Located about 55 km from Palma, the resort town of Alcúdia is home to nearly 20,000 residents in this small municipality in the northeast of Mallorca, about 500 of whom are Germans who simply cannot part with our favorite island - understandable, right? Alcúdia is particularly popular due to the excellent water quality of its beaches; the turquoise shimmering water is just dreamy. Fine, wide sandy beaches as well as small bathing coves await your discovery. In Alcúdia, you will find everything that the vacationer's heart desires: first-class hotels and apartments, a cultural town center with small shops and tapas bars, a harbor, and much more. Families especially love this town, where children can look forward to a varied program in some hotels, and there are many playgrounds on the beach.

Your arrival: Flights to Palma can be found for as low as about €25. From the island's capital, you can take the bus from the Estació Intermodal at Plaza España; it's faster and more convenient with a taxi or a rental car.

Beaches in Alcúdia

Alcúdia is known as a perfect vacation destination for families, but also for anyone longing for a relaxing beach holiday. At the beautiful beaches, you can either laze in the sun or get active with water sports. Casually pedal on pedal boats or zip across the turquoise sparkling sea on a jet ski.

Playa de Alcúdia

The long and wide beach meets all the requirements for a perfect day at the sea. The fine, light sand stretches for more than two kilometers along the coast. While it can get crowded in summer, there is still always a nice spot to be found. Only in July and August might there be a shortage of beach umbrellas. The beach promenade runs parallel to the beach, where a selection of restaurants keeps hungry sunbathers happy. For a Mediterranean menu, we recommend Mirablau Beach, where you can enjoy fresh seafood with a good glass of wine while overlooking the sea. At the beach, you can also rent stand-up paddleboards, ride banana boats, or even try parasailing. Although it may seem very busy, overall, it remains rather peaceful. Playa de Alcúdia should not be confused with the party beaches of the island, as family vacations and relaxation take center stage here.

Playa de Muro

The southern end of the long beach section of Alcúdia is at Playa de Muro. Together with Playa de Alcúdia, you will find here even the largest sandy area on the Balearic Island. This beach section is very similar to its neighbor. Everything seems to be within walking distance, making it perfect for a relaxing Mallorca vacation on the beautiful east coast of the island. The beach extends to the former fishing village of Can Picafort. Another plus point: The beach is completely barrier-free and perfect for wheelchair users.

Coves near Alcúdia

For those who prefer to avoid tourism during their vacation and seek tranquility and serenity, there are small coves north of the beaches of Alcúdia. However, you will find neither sandy beaches nor easy access to the water here. Instead, the coastline is lined with flat rocks from which you can climb into the sea and enjoy the crystal-clear water around you. A popular swimming spot is at Platja d'Alcanada, where you have a beautiful view of the Alcanada lighthouse that sits on a small island in the sea. At Cala Poncet, you will also have the sea largely to yourself. However, you will have to forego sanitary facilities and comfortable loungers here.

Cultural Program in Alcúdia

The popular vacation spot includes not only the old town of Alcúdia but also the lively district of Ciudad Blanca, the port of Alcúdia, the Roman city of Pollentia, and some small villages. A colorful mix awaits you for a versatile vacation.

Romantic Old Town of Alcúdia

The restored town center is influenced by Moorish and Roman elements and today feels like an invitation to journey into the past - it is believed that Alcúdia is the oldest village on the island. A wall almost completely encloses the town and once served as a shield against pirate attacks. Today, you can enjoy the beautiful views of the town and the surrounding landscape.

Enjoy the colorful hustle and bustle and keep your ears perked up, for in summer, live bands often perform their music against the ancient backdrop. On Tuesdays and Sundays between 8:00 AM and 1:30 PM, when the old town fills with market stalls, it becomes particularly lively. Residents and tourists stroll through the alleys, stocking up on fresh fruits and other Mallorcan specialties. Many small and charming shops line the streets, designers and painters have opened vibrant stores, and tapas bars lure hungry visitors. Historical buildings and old churches, modern bars and restaurants - a mix of antiquity and modernity comes together here, giving Alcúdia's old town a special charm.

On the Trails of the Romans in Pollentia

Visit one of the few remnants from the time when the Romans ruled Mallorca. The ruins were rediscovered in the 16th and 17th centuries during the construction of a new city wall. Here you can visit La Portabella, a residential area with the remains of three Roman houses. The remnants of the temples of the Roman forum and theater have also been made accessible to the public. Want to learn more? Then visit the monographic museum of Pollentia. Here, you can admire artifacts from various excavation sites. Clay vessels, glass shards, or jewelry - these millennia-old items have all been retrieved here. By the way, the settlement directly borders Alcúdia's old town and is easily reachable on foot.

Vacation guru tip: To avoid wandering through the ancient ruins with the streams of tourists, visit the Roman city in the morning so that you can spend the rest of the day at the beach.

Harbor Atmosphere in Port d'Alcúdia

Port d'Alcúdia is known for its beautiful marina and its location along Playa de Alcúdia. There are no sights to be found here, but a stroll along the promenade and a visit to first-class restaurants are worth the trip. Let your hunger guide you or follow our recommendation and visit Como En Casa, where you can enjoy delicious Spanish meat dishes, fresh salads, and sweet temptations. For a change from Spanish cuisine, at Sa Roqueta wine & food you'll find the best from Italy: excellent wines, fresh pasta, charcuterie and cheese plates, as well as pizza. Ciudad Blanca is the heart of the vacation spot, here you will find most hotels and apartments, and there's no shortage of restaurants and beach bars.
