Cala Pi
Beautiful villas on a spectacular cliff, yachts in the deep blue water of the bay, and a true dream beach - Cala Pi captivates everyone looking for relaxation against a fairytale backdrop in Mallorca.
Mallorca is your absolute favorite island, you know Palma de Mallorca like the back of your hand, and you have been a regular at Ballermann for so many years that you are greeted by name? How about a quieter vacation on the dream island? I would like to recommend Cala Pi in Mallorca to you. This small village is truly enchanting and the bay of the same name is home to one of the most beautiful beaches in Mallorca. Let me share with you the reasons why Cala Pi can also impress.
Cala Pi - Tradition on the Cliff
The small village of Cala Pi in the municipality of Llucmajor has about 650 inhabitants. While today it exists somewhat off the beaten path of mass tourism as a beautiful hidden gem, it used to be the place to be, as Cala Pi is the oldest known settlement in Mallorca. Even now, the rugged cliffs, which in some places are lushly overgrown, delight residents and visitors alike. While they provided shelter for the first inhabitants in the small natural harbor, the rocky coastline today prevents the development of large hotel complexes - and preserves the idyllic and tranquil atmosphere. For those seeking relaxation, this picturesque villa settlement is the right spot in your Mallorca vacation.
- If you prefer short distances to the sea, then the hotel Ona Cala Pi Club is just right for you. With a little luck, you'll even get a room with a direct view of the bay!
- Slightly outside of Cala Pi is Sa Bassa Plana. This hotel is housed in an old farmhouse from the 18th century and exudes both Mediterranean and modern charm.
Not the right accommodation for you? The region around Cala Pi certainly has more options. Take a look at what appeals to you:
A hike to Torre del Cap de Blanc is highly recommended:
- Distance: About 11 km (total)
- Duration: 3-4 hours
Even though Cala Pi has all the important shops and you can easily get lost in long hikes with your camera, a rental car is definitely advisable. This way, you can decide for yourself whether to spend a day at the beach, search for your dream house among the villas of the village, or plan an excursion. By the way, Capocorb Vell, a Bronze Age settlement considered the most important archaeological site in Mallorca, is located nearby and definitely worth a visit.
Dream Beach between Steep Cliffs - the Cala Pi Bay
The beach in Cala Pi, which shares the same name as the village, is one of the most beautiful beaches in Mallorca. And that's despite the fact that you can't even see the open sea from the bay! The beach lies at the end of a small fjord in southern Mallorca. Nestled in a rugged coastline, which seems almost overgrown in parts, one cannot expect strong sunlight until afternoon. But then it is truly enchanting! The water is surprisingly turquoise and crystal clear, even by Mallorca's standards. The cliffs rise over 30 meters on both sides and create a protective atmosphere. The beach is manageable and the water slopes gently and almost without waves - ideal for families with children.
The Torrent de Cala Pi river flows directly at the beach, but rarely carries any water.
The locals in Mallorca have naturally recognized this potential and primarily visit the Cala Pi beach on weekends. The 147 steps of the steep staircase do not deter them from bringing their family. Therefore, it can get a bit crowded. However, outside of the high season and during the week, you can expect peaceful hours at this enchanting beach. Then, the Cala Pi bay truly unfolds its full potential as an incredibly romantic spot.
If that doesn't appeal to you, you can also enjoy the snorkeling opportunities. The water is as clear as the view from the beach promises. In summer, there is a sunbed rental and lifeguards present, and a small beach hut takes care of your essential needs. So, nothing stands in the way of a perfect beach day!
Cala Pi is also ideally suited for hikers. If you go hiking in Mallorca, you can plan to make a stop at the beach for a swim. A hiking path leads directly around the bay. The beach is also accessible by boat, and you often see expensive yachts bobbing on the water while their owners explore the beautiful villas in the village. Cala Pi provides optimal protection from the weather conditions and is absolutely enchanting - the ideal parking spot for a luxurious private boat.
How Wonderful is Southern Mallorca
If you are already dreaming of warm sand under your feet and picturing yourself strolling through the picturesque streets of the village, I completely understand. I too have fallen for this sweet little place. Peace and relaxation can also be found in southern Mallorca. And even though the rocky coastline does not allow for miles of sandy beaches, Cala Pi derives its charm from the rugged cliffs and sparse population. If you don't want to spend your entire vacation in paradise-like tranquility, you can at least plan a day trip during the week to visit the village's bay and take a walk to Torre de Cala Pi. From there, you can gaze into the distance from a dizzying height.
