Sunny Days in Cancun

Located on the Yucatán Peninsula in the warm Southeast of Mexico, Cancun is such a popular vacation spot because the weather here is warm year-round. You can usually enjoy pleasant temperatures of 68-86°F (20-30°C) and work on your tan thanks to the guaranteed sunshine. So, what has to go directly into your suitcase? Well, sunscreen for sure. But which beach is best for sunbathing?! To be honest, finding the beach in Cancun isn't particularly difficult. A seemingly endless stretch of white sandy beach runs along the coast, truly unmatched.

The Most Beautiful Beaches in Cancun

However, the most beautiful place is directly on Isla Cancun, the thin strip of land that separates the city from the Caribbean Sea. Here you will find Playa Las Perlas, Playa Linda, Playa Langosta, or the party beach Playa Tortugas. Fine sand as far as the eye can see, with green palms and straw-covered sun umbrellas providing some shade under the midday sun! Although most beaches belong to the many hotels and resorts in the city, some are also freely accessible. Playa Delfines, for example, as well as Playa Chac-Mool and Playa Marlin are open to everyone. If you're longing for a bit more island atmosphere, you should definitely plan a short trip to Isla Mujeres, where you will find some of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico, such as the stunning Playa Norte.

The Right Dose of Adventure

A ton of action and activities are what draw so many visitors annually to the big city on the Yucatán Peninsula. Mainly Americans and Canadians come here to celebrate Spring Break or to take advantage of the various offerings for adventure-loving tourists. Of course, Europeans occasionally make their way here too. And you will surely want to do the same once you learn that here, in addition to parasailing, snorkeling, and water skiing, you can also sail into the wonderful sunset on your own boat or spend your leisure time at one of the many golf courses. Cancun is almost like an amusement park right by the Caribbean Sea, inviting extensive diving tours through caves, coral reefs, and mysterious underwater worlds. Just as much as you can experience beneath the water's surface, you can also experience above water in the streets of Cancun, where in the lively hotel district almost every wish is fulfilled!

Tacos and Delicious Seafood

If you're not lounging on the beach with your towel and sunglasses, you'll find variety in the entertainment district of Cancun that runs along the hotel zone. Whether day or night, you will have no problem filling your belly with Mexican delicacies or enjoying a burger at a classic American restaurant. But especially take on the tacos when you're in Mexico! We recommend the somewhat touristy restaurant La Parrilla, where a lively atmosphere meets live music and delicious Mexican specialties. Be sure to ask for the house specialty, the so-called tacos al pastor! Just as delicious is Los de Pescado, a restaurant that has several locations in the Downtown area. Excellent fish tacos are the order of the day here.

A special experience is dining at NAVIOS fusion Mexican Food, where you dine directly on a dock over the water and enjoy exclusive Mexican cuisine. Perfect for a romantic evening for two, which you can end at sunset in small houses on the water. But please don't forget to make a reservation in advance! You'll find delicious seafood at the trendy restaurant The White Box. What you get on your plate here is nearly an explosion of flavors, as the experimental combinations with the modern concept are that delicious.

In the Footsteps of the Maya

An absolute highlight of your Mexico trip should definitely be a visit to the ancient Maya ruins, which can be found all over Yucatán and especially in the coastal areas. Right by Cancun lie some of these treasures waiting to be explored by you. How about a day trip to the UNESCO World Heritage site Chichén Itzá, located less than 124 miles (200 km) from Cancun? The impressive Maya pyramid is even one of the seven new wonders of the world. Equally exciting is the charming site of Tulum, located about 81 miles (130 km) south of Cancun. Nestled in beautiful landscapes, you will find an archaeological site that can teach you a lot about the history of the Maya. And did we mention the wonderful surroundings with palm-fringed beaches?

Much closer to Cancun are the sites of El Meco and El Rey, with the latter located right in the hotel zone. So, you should definitely stop by here too. Just ask at your hotel if tours to the Maya temples and sites are offered. A visit to these magical places is, in our opinion, a must on your trip to Mexico.

Colorful Coral Reefs and an Underwater Museum

Now we have something truly special for you that you absolutely must not miss during your stay in Cancun! A highlight among the Cancun tips, at least if you like being in the underwater world. Here, there is an actual underwater museum. Around 400 sculptures by artist Jason de Caires Taylor are located here in the depths of the sea, some already inhabited by corals and marine life. Grab your diving mask and fins and dive into this magical labyrinth of corals, sculptures, and other works of art!

Hidden Oases: The Cenotes

Just as fascinating as the coral reefs off the coast of Mexico are the so-called cenotes, which you will find all around the city. Of course, they must not be missing from our Cancun tips! The Cenote Azul is located nearby and invites you to relax, dive, and explore. These water flows and underwater caves were once used by the Maya as freshwater sources. Today, however, they serve as a refreshing cool-off spot for many tourists. Truly magical places, these cenotes in the middle of the jungle, don't you think?

If you haven't guessed it yet: the plants and animal species that inhabit the jungles of Mexico are as diverse as almost any other place on Earth. Why not visit Akumal Beach, where you can swim with turtles, or marvel at the exotic wildlife, from pelicans to flamingos, everything is here. Cancun is simply a paradise for all nature lovers.

The Yucatán Peninsula is also very popular among backpackers and offers plenty of room for discovery tours and hikes! Here you will also find the Sian Ka'an National Park, which spans an area of about 5,300 square kilometers, certainly large enough to experience the natural diversity of Mexico. There's nothing more exciting than getting to know the nature, animals, and culture of another country, so let yourself be warmly greeted by dolphins, crocodiles, turtles, and co. on a jeep or boat excursion through the park and enjoy nature under the sun of Mexico.

Oh yes, Cancun is also quite famous for one particular thing. Can you guess what it is? Right, it's the legendary nightlife of the city. Hardly anywhere else in the world is Spring Break celebrated as exuberantly as in Cancun.

Except maybe Spring Break in Florida. It's no wonder that Cancun is often referred to as the Mexican equivalent of Mallorca and Ibiza. From early to mid-March, the parties reach their peak and you can have a truly special vacation in Mexico. But even outside the semester breaks of the American and Canadian party-goers, things are lively here, and you can party in the best and largest nightclubs in the world until the early hours!

The exciting day trips to the most extraordinary destinations have particularly captured our hearts. Why not rent a car so you won't miss anything!
