Cap Formentor in Mallorca

Here's how to reach the island's most beautiful viewpoint

You shouldn't miss Cap Formentor, the most beautiful and spectacular viewpoint on the entire island, during your exploration. Read here how to get to Cap Formentor, what access restrictions exist, and what highlights await you on the Formentor Peninsula.

Northeast of Port de Pollença, the long peninsula stretches into the sea, where huge rock formations rise out of the water at the end of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range. Translated, Cap de Formentor (also known as Cap Formentor) literally means "the end of Formentor."

Today, this very end is a popular stop for tourists who want to enjoy the unique views at the lighthouse and are treated to breathtaking views on their way to the UNESCO World Heritage site.

In general, if you are driving yourself, you should not be afraid of heights and be able to handle tight curves, cyclists, and pedestrians on your route. Then, nothing stands in the way of a fantastic outing to the island's northernmost point.

Getting to Cap Formentor

If you don't want to miss the fantastic views along the winding peninsula, a trip to Cap de Formentor with the lighthouse is a great idea year-round. In the summer, you can take advantage of the convenient shuttle bus, or alternatively, you can bike or use a rental car.

Access Restrictions at Cap Formentor

Due to the crowds of tourists who make their way by car to the viewpoint year after year, since 2018 there has been a consistent restriction on access for motorized vehicles during the summer months. And in 2025, the Mallorcan government will maintain this - access to the tip of the peninsula will once again be restricted from June 1 to October 30 between 10 AM and 10 PM.

If you do not comply with the access restriction for cars, you may face penalties.

Getting there by shuttle bus

There is a regular shuttle service with bus line 334.

You can start in Alcúdia or Port de Pollença. Along the route, you can get off at various viewpoints or at the beach of Formentor. During peak season, 20 round trips are offered.

Getting there by car

If you want to explore the Cap outside of the high season, we recommend leaving early and arriving shortly after sunrise. When the roads and cliffs are bathed in golden light and the sun is not scorching hot, the route and the lighthouse are exceptionally worth seeing.

Outside the restricted period from June 1 to October 30, 2025, the route is open to cars as usual.

Route to the lighthouse

Drive north from Port de Pollença on the Ma-2210 road and follow it towards Platja de Formentor. After about ten kilometers, you will pass the beach on your right and continue north on the serpentine roads until you reach Faro de Formentor, the lighthouse.

Along the way, there are many opportunities to stop briefly at different spots and enjoy the views.

At the end of the road, you will have reached your destination. The proud white lighthouse rises 300 meters above the sea, magnificently marking the end of the peninsula. Around you, you will encounter various plant species and be able to observe wild goats.

Additionally, there is a small, always well-visited, and relatively expensive restaurant on the observation deck of the tower, from which you can enjoy a truly magnificent view. The trip is definitely worth it at any time of year.

Along the peninsula, you will find beautiful spots and coves, such as Cala Figuera and Cala Murta. Alternatively, we also recommend Platja de Formentor, a small cove that surprises with a beach lined by pine trees.

So if you're planning a trip to Cap de Formentor, be sure to pack your swimwear in the car and take a relaxing break at one of the beautiful coves. If you want, you can also bring a picnic basket - watermelon, coconut, and pineapple taste best at the beach!
