Time Magazine's top 100 most beautiful destinations in the world in 2023

In its August 2-9, 2023 issue, Time Magazine lists the 100 best destinations to explore as it does every year.

"In many ways, our annual list of the world's most beautiful places is a tribute to the people and companies in the tourism industry who, in these extraordinary circumstances, have found ways to adapt and innovate," the New York weekly says on its website, referring to the current health crisis.

Destinations to visit or to dream about

For this 2023 edition, Time Magazine has focused on destinations that offer "new and incredible" experiences, including countries, regions, cities and even villages.

While the borders with many countries remain closed or subject to numerous restrictive measures, these destinations are "all worth reading about - and dreaming about - until it is possible to explore them again".

France in the Time Magazine rankings

Several French destinations are mentioned in the weekly magazine's top list thanks to the opening of new places or the setting up of infrastructures that encourage tourists to come:

• The Paris Stock Exchange opened in May 2021;

• TheGrand Contrôle hotel in Versailles opened in June 2021;

• The underwater eco-museum in Cannes and its monumental statues by the artist Jason deCaires Taylor underwater in January 2021;

• The Loire Valley, highlighted by the opening of new accommodation and new galleries in 2021.

The pedestrianisation of part of the centre of the capital and the introduction of cycle paths also appealed to the American journalists who produced the top list.

Scattered around the globe, these destinations range "from the Portuguese city of Arouca," home to the world's longest suspension bridge, "to the continent ofAntarctica, which will experience a total solar eclipse in December," the magazine says.
