These are the 100 best pizzerias in the world
Italy is famous for pizza. But there are also excellent versions of the food classic in other countries. The website "Top 50 Pizza" has selected the 100 best pizzerias in the world - three restaurants in Germany are also included.

What makes a good pizza? The website "50 Top Pizza" has dedicated itself to this question and selects the best pizzerias in the world every year. Contrary to what the name suggests, the ranking includes not just 50, but 100 pizzerias.
For this, Italian pizza connoisseurs anonymously go to different pizzerias around the world and rate the restaurants in seven categories: the pizza, the products used, the service, the ambience as well as the equipment, the waiting time and the selection of wine, beer and other drinks.
In 2022, the awards ceremony was held for the first time at the Royal Palace in Naples. There could probably be no better place for the award than the birthplace of the food classic. The art of the Neapolitan pizza makers was even honoured by Unesco a few years ago and included in the list of intangible cultural heritage. What distinguishes a real pizza from Naples: a thick and juicy dough, fruity tomato sugo, creamy mozzarella and spicy basil.
These are the two best pizzerias in the world
You can eat the famous Neapolitan pizza in the three best pizzerias in the world chosen by "50 Top Pizza". First place is shared by "I Masanielli - Francesco Martucci" in the Italian town of Caserta and "Una Pizza Napoletana" in New York.
"I Masanielli - Francesco Martucci" has already reached the top several times. The restaurant is located 25 kilometres northeast of Naples. The pizzeria is visually characterised by minimalist industrial charm. The pizza is served by Francesco Martucci, who worked in a pizzeria in Caserta as a child due to financial difficulties at home.
His love of the food classic has been with him ever since, and his shop is particularly famous for the "Futura di Marinara". The pizza is cooked in three stages and temperatures - first steamed to 100 degrees, then deep-fried at 180 degrees and then in the oven at 400 degrees. It is topped with a cream of roasted tomatoes, wild garlic pesto, capers, anchovies and oregano.

The restaurant "Una Pizza Napoletana" has been providing Italian flair in New York since 1996. The look of the place is very modern, and industrial charm prevails here as well. However, pizza with a thick and juicy crust is also served in New York.
The sauces are usually quite simple: strained tomatoes, fresh basil and garlic are typical. Add buffalo mozzarella, salt, pecorino and a touch of olive oil and you have a classic. There is also a special pizza of the day.
These are the best pizzerias in Germany
However, the rankings of the other pizzerias on the list vary widely: pizza makers from cities like Cairo, Helsinki, Auckland and Beijing are among the top 100 on the list.
Germany is also represented three times: "Pizza Zulù" from Fürth lands at number 33, "Malafemmena" in Berlin at number 66 and "Futura Neapolitan Pizza" in Berlin at number 97.
These cities have the best pizza
The ranking is dominated by Italy - seven of the ten best pizzerias in the world can be found in the country. And in total, Italy is represented 40 times in the top 100.
And which place is the best pizza city in the world overall? If you count which cities are represented most often in the top 100, you will find two cities at the top: both New York and Rome have five restaurants in the ranking. Naples, London and Tokyo follow in second place, each with four restaurants.
However, Naples leads the way with no less than four eateries in the top 10 best pizzerias in the world. Since Naples and Caserta are quite close to each other, pizza fans can check out all the places. AsTime Outmagazine puts it, "In other words, a pizza pilgrimage to no fewer than seven of the world's best pizzerias is entirely doable."
