A JS with MB in an AB, equipped with AC, BD, and BK - what? The fact that this acronym refers to a Junior Suite with a sea view in a historic hotel that also has air conditioning, a bathtub, and a balcony will likely not be clear to most of you at first glance. While we are certainly familiar with the common abbreviations regarding room types, meals, and amenities, there are also many other abbreviations that may cause confusion at first. So that you are no longer puzzled during your trip planning, today I am introducing you to the 72 hotel abbreviations that were declared by the German Institute for Standardization in Berlin as official 'abbreviations in travel catalogs,' also known as DIN 77001.

What a clever idea to create national, European, and international hotel abbreviations that everyone can understand. Well, at least everyone who knows the corresponding meaning of these acronyms. I am sure not everyone among you could explain all 72 abbreviations on the spot. Six different descriptive areas are covered by these abbreviations: room amenities, room type, location, service and meal types, type of building, and the category Miscellaneous.
