Map of Attractions in Kuala Lumpur
The following map gives you a quick view of the attractions in Kuala Lumpur.
1. Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur
Dubai, Shanghai, New York City, and Taipei - these cities host the tallest skyscrapers in the world. Standing at 452 meters, the Petronas Twin Towers rank 16th in this list. If we talk about the tallest twin towers, Kuala Lumpur secures the first place with the Petronas Towers. The towers are not only the proud symbol of Kuala Lumpur; they also dominate the city's skyline. You can often find your way just by looking at the towers, as they are visible from almost anywhere.
However, a closer look at the Petronas Towers is also worthwhile: At the base of the towers is the Kuala Lumpur City Centre, which not only features a large mall with international brands but also a fountain in the Simfoni Lake, where a light, music, and water show takes place several times a day. We especially recommend visiting in the evenings when the massive towers are lit up magically, and the vibrant colors of the fountain show are even more impressive. The show runs every evening hourly at 8, 9, and 10 PM. At 7:30, 8:30, and 9:30 PM, you can also enjoy a water and light show without music. Find a spot in the adjacent KLCC Park and enjoy the performance!
Travel Guru Tip: If you want to go up to the highest twin towers in the world, you should purchase a ticket in advance, as the availability is limited. It's best to book your tickets online before your trip. The best time to visit the Petronas Twin Towers is just before sunset, so you can enjoy the view both in daylight and illuminated in the dark.
2. Batu Caves
The next attraction in Kuala Lumpur is located about 30 kilometers outside the city. The Batu Caves, the impressive limestone caves featuring the large golden statue of Murugan, which has made this place famous, are among the most important attractions in Malaysia.
Take the KTM Komuter (KMUTER) Port Klang Line or a taxi to reach the caves in the village of the same name. You should pay attention to the dress code. To enter the caves, you must cover your shoulders and legs. You can borrow a sarong at the entrance for a small deposit. Entrance to the main caves of Batu Caves is free. After conquering over 300 steps, you enter a huge cave filled with various colorful shrines. You can traverse the main cave and climb up steps to another smaller cave, which also has a shrine.
If you wish to visit the so-called Dark Caves, you must pay a fee for the mandatory guided tour. If you want to participate, you should not be afraid of tight spaces or spiders, but do give it a try: the tours are really interesting. However, beware of the cheeky monkeys that roam around before and sometimes in the caves. Especially food is not safe from their nimble fingers.
Travel Guru Tip: On February 2, 2026, the annual Hindu festival Thaipusam will take place again, where thousands of devotees pilgrimage to the Batu Caves during a grand festival. This colorful spectacle makes a visit to the limestone caves even more impressive.
3. Genting Highlands
About 50 kilometers from the city center lies the Resort World Genting amidst the Titiwangsa Mountains. Here, you will find the First World Hotel, which has the most rooms in the world (7,351 rooms), as well as several amusement parks, restaurants, shopping centers, and casinos. That's right: the Genting Highlands are the only place in Malaysia where gambling is permitted.
An express bus runs hourly from KL Sentral between 8 AM and 8 PM for 14 MYR (about $3) to the Genting Highlands. Once you arrive at the final stop, Awana Station, all that's left is to take a cable car, the Genting Skyway, to reach the resort. The one-way fare for the cable car is about 14 Ringgit, which is approximately $3. Alternatively, you can also book a guided tour with transfer online.

4. Bukit Bintang District
When the sun sets, you should head to the next attraction in Kuala Lumpur - the trendy Bukit Bintang area. Here, you can have a great time partying in the bar and club district of Changkat Bukit Bintang and indulge in delicious Asian cuisine on Jalan Alor, the famous street food street of Kuala Lumpur. As you stroll along the approximately 300-meter-long street, you will be surrounded by various aromas, making restaurant choices a challenge.
Malay, Chinese, Thai, Cambodian - all this and much more can be found on Jalan Alor. Between the larger restaurants, vendors set up their small food stalls and improvised booths every evening, where you can buy delicious dumplings, fresh fruits like the infamous durian, and other treats for a small price. We promise you: Jalan Alor is the absolute street food heaven! Want to learn more about Malaysian food culture and typical dishes? Then a food tour is just what you need. You can easily book corresponding offers online:
In Bukit Bintang, you can also shop very well. We recommend Berjaya Times Square, one of the largest shopping centers in the world. Over 1,000 shops, 65 restaurants, and even an entire amusement park are located in the building, which opened in 2003. The small amusement park, Berjaya Times Square Theme Park, is a highlight in itself, where a roller coaster with loops runs right through the mall. For 70 MYR (about $15), you can take a ride. Pavilion Kuala Lumpur is another large mall in Bukit Bintang, where you can shop to your heart's content in over 550 shops, including many outlets.
5. KL Tower or Menara Kuala Lumpur
If you want to crown your sightseeing experience in Kuala Lumpur with a special dinner, you can reserve a table at the Atmosphere 360 Revolving Restaurant in the KL Tower and enjoy a panoramic view of the illuminated metropolis from 276 meters high.
Travel Guru Tip: Just a short distance from the KL Tower, the KL Forest Eco Park is a true urban jungle. In the Zoos and Parks section, you can learn more about this free attraction.
6. Merdeka Square
A visit to Merdeka Square - Dataran Merdeka - where Malaysia's flag was first hoisted on August 31, 1957, marking Malaysia's independence from colonial rule, is also a must-do while sightseeing in Kuala Lumpur.
What will immediately catch your eye is the Sultan Abdul Samad Building with its historic clock tower. Today, the building is not only a beautiful photo opportunity but also houses the Supreme Court of Malaysia.
The Merdeka Square in front of the Sultan Abdul Samad Building was once used as a cricket field; today, various events and markets regularly take place here, so there is usually something happening at Merdeka Square. Nearby, where the Klang and Gombak rivers converge, stands the Jamek Mosque, Masjid Jamek, built in 1909, making it the oldest mosque in the city. Outside of prayer times, you are also allowed to visit the mosque from the inside.
7. Zoos & Parks in Kuala Lumpur
The KL Forest Eco Park (formerly Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve), located right next to the KL Tower, is also worth a visit. The park is a genuine rainforest in the city that you can explore via several walking trails and a canopy walkway. Be sure to apply insect repellent generously and wear sturdy shoes! The KL Forest Eco Park is open daily from 8 AM to 5:30 PM, and admission is free.
Travel Guru Tip: If you want to visit several parks, you can book a tour online that includes admission to the KL Bird Park, Butterfly Park, as well as the Orchid Garden and the Deer Park.
8. Petaling Street
In the covered Jalan Petaling, there is virtually nothing you can't buy: from bags and high-end clothing to quality jewelry and the latest blockbusters and games - all original, mind you. If you enjoy bargaining, you'll surely have fun here and be able to snag a souvenir or two.
Visiting Kuala Lumpur's Chinatown is particularly worthwhile in the evening. Then you can fill your stomach with unbeatable cheap prices at the food stalls.
