This week I’m featuring a photo of Rumah Pohon Treehouse – most ‘instagramable’ accommodation in Nusa Penida taken by Kristin Addis from the Be My Travel Muse Blog.

Photo Story: Rumah Pohon Treehouse
The first time I saw this treehouse I was browsing on Airbnb looking for cool places to stay on Nusa Penida near Bali.
When I saw images of this treehouse it looked like something straight out of a fantasy novel.
It was steep, at around $42 per night, which is truly expensive for something of that size in Southeast Asia. But I knew it would be an experience.
Although I still had two months to go before I would be in the area, after noting that some of the dates were already booked a month out, I secured my spot and knew that I would get there somehow.
Flash forward two months later and I was riding on the back of a motorbike on a truly atrocious road to the Rumah Pohon Treehouse.
I read the Airbnb reviews again in the days leading up to arriving and they had me a bit nervous – people said it was very basic and that they were sharing with a lot of critters.
Sure enough, when I showed up it wasn’t the cleanest or nicest place I had stayed, particularly for the price, but there is no beating that view.
I watched the moon set over the water that night looking at the little islets with no one else around. You have to climb down some pretty steep stairs to get there, and late at night, it’s pretty private.
However, the next morning at around 4 AM I was awoken by a light shining on the deck. The tree moves with every little shake so that was enough to shock me awake.
Once I came to and remembered where I was I realized there was no reason to be alarmed. It was just someone as avid about photographing the treehouse as I was.
I learned that since it’s Insta-famous you can plan on sharing the Rumah Pohon Treehouse with plenty of people throughout the day, and especially at sunrise, the most popular time.
However, that’s the beauty of being the one to book and stay in the treehouse. I was able to set my tripod up and climb back up the stairs for a bunch of truly dreamy selfies that I feel are some of my best work!
After I was finished, I let anyone who asked to come up and take photos. Sharing is caring, right?
I think the premise of the treehouse is amazing, and obviously, it’s beautiful. It wasn’t exactly the private, secluded experience I had hoped for but it was an experience nonetheless.
Rumah Pohon Treehouse is a very famous ‘Instagram’ spot on Nusa Penida island close to Bali in Indonesia, worth booking to have all this beauty to yourself, once all the other photographers goes back to their accomodations ha ha
