Gay Travel: Hotels for gays and lesbians
If you want to walk through the hotel lobby holding hands with your boyfriend or girlfriend or kiss at the pool without being looked at askance, you might want to try a gay-friendly hotel or even a gay hotel.
"The Space Guest House in Johannesburg(South Africa), for example, is gay-friendly. At the "Riu Don Muguel" in Gran Canaria, only adults are allowed - and it is also a Gayfriendly hotel (like the whole island, actually).
The "Axel Hotel" in Berlin (as well as in Barcelona, Ibiza and other cities) goes even further: they call themselves "heterofriendly". Because, they say on their website: No matter if two men, two women or man and woman - people without prejudices are welcome in the hotels of the chain.

And "The Late Birds Lisbon" in Portugal is an "All-Male Gay Urban Resort". So in this case, it really is: gays only.
Gay Travel: The most popular countries for gays and lesbians
We won't rank the most popular LGBTQ travel destinations here, but we will list (in no order of importance) the ones that are undoubtedly popular:
Gran Canaria is one of the top travel destinations for gays and lesbians in Europe. The Canary Island with its countless bars, discos and beaches is completely dedicated to the homosexual public.
The scene is also buzzing on Ibiza: especially on the beach Platja d'es Cavallet (located in the south of the island) with its famous beach bar "Chiringay", gays and lesbians cavort. You can see this on the bar's Instagram account, for example.
The Greek island of Mykonos is just as popular as a city trip to Berlin, Munich, Vienna or Stockholm. All these cities are completely gay-friendly and mega-tolerant. The same goes for Florida and Miami. By the way: In Miami there are extra beach sections marked with a rainbow flag.
The popular islands of Thailand (such as Koh Samui or Koh Phangan), Cape Town and Johannesburg (South Africa) and Israel (Tel Aviv) are also popular destinations for the LGBTQ community.

Gay Travel: Cruises for gays and lesbians
If you can't agree on a destination with your better half or don't want to commit to one, there are now also themed cruises for gays and lesbians. The main target group here, however, has so far been gay men (although lesbian women are of course also accepted).
Various providers (for example "Atlantis", "RSVP" or "mCruise") have specialised in gay cruises. Large operators such as TUI or Norwegian now also offer gay-friendly cruises at regular intervals.
Gay Travel: Dangerous Countries for Gays and Lesbians
There are countries that are hostile to gays. Here, gays and lesbians even find themselves in mortal danger if they openly display their sexual orientation. In some countries, even the death penalty for homosexual acts still applies today. According to the "Spartacus International Gay Guide", these are the five most dangerous holiday destinations for gays and lesbians:
Place | Country |
|---|---|
1 | Iran |
2 | Arab Emirates |
3 | Saudi Arabia |
4 | Yemen |
