Trendy Seminyak in Bali
I've already introduced you to many beautiful spots in Bali, and today it's time for Seminyak, a charming small town north of Kuta. What you can experience and discover there will be revealed now!
The small town of Seminyak at the southern tip of Bali between Kuta and Denpasar is becoming more and more of a trendy and hip travel destination. Even though the town on the west coast is quieter than Kuta, it may be precisely that which draws tourists to this seaside town. Here, you'll find everything a vacationer's heart desires. I ventured to the neighboring town of Legian to see what experiences Seminyak has to offer.
Hip Bars and Trendy Restaurants
Of course, I tested the bars and restaurants in Seminyak for you to find out where you can enjoy the best breakfast and where the evening cocktail tastes the best. For me, it is always super exciting to learn about the eating habits in other countries, especially when they are as incredibly delicious as in Bali. You should like rice because what we Germans consider potatoes, is rice for Indonesians. Furthermore, a lot of fruits are used here. For instance, I tried the pink dragon fruit for the first time at Shelter. Generally, I can promise you that the food in Bali and specifically in Seminyak holds plenty for your taste buds.
The Shelter in Seminyak
Tucked away in a side alley, you'll find the hip restaurant Shelter. A small staircase leads you to a beautiful rooftop terrace, where friendly staff greet you and escort you to a free table. Everywhere you look, green plants hang from the bamboo ceiling, and it smells like freshly squeezed orange juice. I recommend ordering a fruit smoothie, as they are freshly made to order here.
When it comes to the food, things get a bit tricky because the selection is simply enormous and everything sounds incredibly delicious. I chose a Nalu Bowl, which is a coconut filled with pureed dragon fruit, fresh fruits like bananas, mango, raspberries, blueberries, along with nuts, muesli and other treats. There are various types of Nalu Bowls, one variation includes peanut butter. I can only say they taste divine! But the other dishes on the menu are also worth trying, and the best part is that a Nalu Bowl costs only 4€. In Bali, you can eat very cheaply - I spent about €15 per day on restaurant visits and really ate well.
KYND community
If you're into 'healthy food', you should definitely visit the KYND community in Seminyak. Here, you can sample extraordinary creations in a beautifully playful atmosphere. An absolute paradise for vegetarians and vegans, because you'll find no dairy or meat in this café. With many super delicious creations, KYND shows you that vegan food is not only good for you and the environment but also super tasty and anything but boring. Just work your way through the menu and enjoy delicious milkshakes, waffles, and other delicacies, all prepared with fresh fruits available in Bali's markets.
Hungry Bird Café
As I was riding my scooter to the beach, I stumbled upon this cute café, and since I hadn't had breakfast yet, I stopped right in and tasted my way through the menu. First of all, the coffee is incredibly delicious, but the smoothies and the iced teas are also worth mentioning. In the end, I opted for an iced tea, pancakes, an omelette, and freshly baked bread with avocado spread. Everything is highly recommended because everything is still homemade. So, make a stop here before heading to the beach and let the Hungry Bird team pamper you culinarily.
Warungs on the Beach
During the day, I spent most of my time on the beach. Whenever I got hungry there, I quickly went to one of the many warungs - Indonesian for 'little shops' - on the beach because here you can find typical Indonesian food for very little money, for example, Nasi Goreng, a rice dish with vegetables and optionally chicken. If you're not a big fan of rice, you can also try Bami Goreng, a vegetable noodle stir-fry. Personally, I can recommend both. For me, it was always a perfect lunch because it doesn't sit too heavy on the stomach, allowing you to jump back into the water and continue surfing. The best part is that I didn't even pay 1€ for my delicious lunch. So anyone looking for super cheap and typically Indonesian food should definitely stop by one of the warungs!
Beachtime - The Beach of Seminyak Calls
Speaking of the beach, I want to introduce you to the stunning beach of Seminyak. The beautiful sandy beach invites you for long beach walks, and if you'd rather sunbathe, I recommend renting a sunbed with an umbrella, which costs only €1.50 for 5 hours. The sun in Bali is really strong, so be sure to apply sunscreen regularly and take a break under the umbrella from time to time.
For another refreshment, the sea is also great. However, to swim here, you should be a good swimmer because the waves at Seminyak beach can be quite strong. But for all surf fans, this is an absolute dream. Just rent a board and give it a try. If you want to learn from scratch, there are plenty of surf schools that will teach you all the important tricks. Because you haven't really experienced Bali if you haven't stood on a surfboard!
The Best Clubs and Bars in Seminyak
Seminyak is definitely a place for night owls, as the little town has several cool clubs to offer. I would like to introduce a few of them to you in more detail.
La Favela
Welcome to the jungle! This club, which during the day is still an ordinary restaurant, transforms in the evening into one of the hottest clubs in Seminyak. The unique atmosphere that the location radiates is simply incredible. Just when you enter La Favela over the glass bridge, under which is a small pond with fish, you will feel like you are walking into a jungle thanks to the many plants hanging from the ceiling. The club is open-plan, so you can walk directly from the large dance floor outside into the courtyard. Treat yourself to a little dancing break among trees and beautiful flowers and enjoy a cocktail or two.
Old Mans
The Old Mans is a true surfer bar, as guests often come directly from the beach. At Old Mans, you can not only dance and drink but also play a round of beer pong. The playing groups are loudly cheered on by the spectators, and the winners even get a round of drinks on the house. So if you want to end your evening a bit more relaxed at the beach with a round of beer pong, be sure to check out Old Mans!
Echo Beach
A little further away at Echo Beach, you can have incredible nights because regular hot beach parties are celebrated here. A bar and DJ booth are set up right on the beach, and then you can get started! Dance to hot electro beats under the Bali starry sky. If your feet hurt from dancing, you can simply dip them in the sea for a moment. I particularly recommend the neon and full moon parties; they were a highlight of my Bali trip. Although Echo Beach is not directly in Seminyak, the parties were so cool that I couldn't keep them from you! You can reach Echo Beach within 5 minutes on a scooter!
Shopping in Seminyak
In Seminyak, not only surfers' hearts beat faster, but also those of shopaholics among us: The city has the highest density of boutiques in Bali. Here, you'll find many local designers with extraordinary styles, unconventional shops, and stylish galleries. For a shopping tour through Seminyak, you can easily plan a whole day, as the selection is truly enormous. As you stroll along the main shopping street Jl. Raya Seminyak, you can immediately see what's currently trendy in fashion and art.
Overnight in Seminyak
As is the case all over the island, you will find beautiful accommodations in Seminyak that invite you for a relaxing night. During my stay, I particularly liked the beautiful Airbnbs. The villas you can stay in are all incredibly beautiful and offer you the true Bali experience. I have listed three of my favorite accommodations here.
Luxurious Treehouse
Thanks to the wonderfully tropical climate, everything in Bali takes place outdoors. Why not your overnight stay as well? Enjoy a nature-connected night in this beautiful treehouse and treat yourself to an amazing experience while taking in the sunset over the rice terraces from the hot tub. Here, you'll feel truly at home.
Jungle Bargain
In the midst of this lush tropical garden, refreshing yourself in the 15-meter-long pool gives you a true Bali feeling. Your little private villa is also not far from the city center and various shopping and dining options. Plus, you're getting a real bargain at Uma Karan!
Beach Bubble
Are you looking for accommodation in Seminyak but want something special? Then I have just the thing for you! Stay in this transparent inflated bubble and admire the beautiful clear starry sky over Bali. In the morning, you can jump straight into the sea and perfectly start your day.
Bali Calls!
Of course, Seminyak also has plenty of top-notch hotels with amazing pool facilities. Just browse through my hotel search and find the perfect place to stay for your trip.
So, those were my Seminyak tips! I really enjoyed my stay there. My last tip: Definitely rent a scooter! At first, the left-hand traffic in Bali takes some getting used to, but after a short while, you'll get used to it. If you're not feeling so adventurous, it's best to take one of the Bluebird taxis, which operate with a meter, so you won't be ripped off on the price.
