Zurich – Romance in a full swing

Zurich. Here I am again in my favourite Swiss city. I already wrote about Zurich back in 2011. Therefore I will not be describing basic sightseeing sites and museums. Landesmuseum. Kunsthaus or Grossmunster. I will not patronize you about the need to stroll around Bahnhofstrasse. Niederdorf, Lindenhof or Lake Promenade. Although those are perfect places to wander around on sunny spring days.

I’m here visiting Miss Champagne and Mr Banker. This time is special! Whole Italian Team is joining as well. Miss Pink and Miss I Deserve It. Mr Skipper and Mr Ex Husband are all visiting! So we are like a ‘school trip’. Walking around. Getting lost in tricky design shops.

‘Must do things’ in Zurich!

There are two places I love. First is Fraumunster, Church of Our Lady. Which I visit every single time I’m in Zurich. No! I’m not such a good Catholic Girl. I simply love the stained-glass windows by Marc Chagall.

There is something dramatic about them. Each one has a dominant colour. My favourite two are the Prophets Elijah’s ascent to heaven. And Zion. Showing an angel trumpeting the end of the world.

The other ones are Jacob. Showing his combat and dreams of heaven. Christ. Illustrating various scenes from Christ’s life. And Law. Displaying Moses looking down upon the suffering of his people.

The church has amazing stained-glass windows by Augusto Giacometti. If you are interested in this artist work, Grossmunster is a place to visit.

Another hidden gem of Zurich is the Foundation E. G. Buhrle Collection. You enjoyed the Musee d’Orsay in Paris? You will love this place!

Entrance is by appointment only. That makes a visit there seem very exclusive and intimate. There is always a person happy to talk about the works they are displaying. Cezanne, Monet and Degas. This is a real treat for art lovers.

There are many reasons why I come back over and over to Zurich. The chocolate. Locally grown wines. Amazing museums. Medieval architecture. Breathtaking vistas. Easy access to skiing areas.

Extravagant shopping. Superb SPAs not far from the city. Outstanding restaurants. Those are worth a separate posts in the future.

The main reason are my great friends! Miss Champagne, Mr Banker. And from last month Mr Skipper. Some of the memorable nights here are not so distant from our Golden Warsaw Times!
