Today I’m hosting Adelina Wong from Pack Me To Blog and her photograph of gluhwein! Yes. You heard me right! This week I’m featuring a picture of alcohol. What the heck? Oh, get over yourself :) There is no need to be so proper and serious all the time. Current total winter is a perfect season to get friendly with this little beauty! Show Adelina love on Facebook and Twitter!
Picture Story : Gluhwein
This past holiday season was the first I spent at home after being in Europe for a couple years. It was nice to be back home with family after being away for so long. But adjusting to life back at home, after a big adventure is tough. There were lots of things that I missed from Europe and life as an expat. I especially missed being able to visit the numerous Christmas Markets throughout Europe in December. Nothing gets you more in the holiday mood than sipping a cup or two of hot and spicy gluhwein.
Vancouver, in recent years, has hosted a German Christmas Market. Full of delicious foods and crafts. I was pleasantly surprised at how authentic the experience was and even visited a couple of times to get my fill of all things German. From bratwurst to spaetzle. I was in heaven. But the best thing was the copious amounts of gluhwein available.
On this particular visit, it was very cold by Vancouver standards. But the sun was out and shining making it a great day to visit. The cup of steaming gluhwein was a welcomed drink. Warming me up from the inside out. With a couple of sips, surrounded by all the German-ness of the market, I could almost convince myself that I was back in Europe, living the expat life.
I absolutely love your website.. Great colours and theme. Did you build this web site yourself? Please
reply back as I’m trying to create my own blog and want to learn where you got this from or just what the theme is called. Many thanks!
Dear Luciana yes I build it myself, of course with a help of my IT team :) Send me an email and I will try to help as much as I can!

Woah! I’m really digging the template/theme of this website. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s difficult to get that “perfect balance” between user friendliness and visual appeal. I must say you’ve done a amazing job with this. Additionally, the blog loads very fast for me on Firefox. Excellent Blog!
Thanks!

I have always wanted to visit the German Christmas markets. We are in the UK, so it is not that far, just kids and stuff always seem to get in the way

Superb picture! Thanks for sharing this post.
Very photogenic mug of gluhwein. I love the European Christmas markets (been lucky enough to enjoy them the past few years) and gluhwein is a big part of it! I’ve been hearing that Vancouver has a great market. Maybe I’ll hop up there next year.

Yes, it looks like Vancouver is not bad at all. Of course I’m a big fan of German and Austrian Christmas Markets but why not :)

It’s been a long time since I’ve celebrated a Canadian Christmas. I’m from Halifax. Have spent the last 13 Christmas in South East Asia, usually on the beach. That Gluhwein looks delicious!

Ahh… gluhwein. It’s snowing and freezing in New York right now; how I wish I’m sipping it now. Lovely shot.

Same here, it is so cold in Poland that gluhwein should be served for free on the streets ha ha ha

I love bratwurst and spaetzle, but I have to admit, I’ve never tried Gluhwein. Does it taste like Mulled wine??
Ciki that is exactly the same name, just German, English name. As its origin is from German speaking countries here in Europe people very really called otherwise :)
