Picture Story: Waikiki Beach, Hawaii
Hawaii is such a beautiful place. During our week in Oahu we had so many fun adventures. We kayaked in the ocean out to a small island. Snorkelled the beautiful coral reefs at Hanauma Bay. Hiked to Maunawili Falls. Climbed up Diamond Head. Attended a luau and paid our respects at Pearl Harbour. Hawaii is really superb! Watching the multitude of surfers from the many ocean shores we found ourselves on. Turned out to be one of our favourite activities.
We stayed right on Waikiki Beach. So we had ample opportunity to watch surfers right from our hotel. We had the option to lay in the sun by the lagoon or right on the ocean beach. We tended to gravitate towards the ocean beach. As there was much more activity going on there.
We also spent a good portion of our days relaxing on the beaches of the North Shore. It was winter when the waves are typically at their highest. We got to see some waves that were over 20 feet high! The surfers looked so tiny compared to the gigantic waves. It was quite entertaining to watch everyone’s impressive skills.
During one of our sun drenched beach days we were minding our own business when all of a sudden one of our favourite musicians. Jack Johnson. Came out of the water! We happened to be sitting out front of his parents house and we spotted him walking back to the house.
Micah ended up walking over to say hi and they had a quick conversation! Later on that evening, we also spotted Rob Machado. A famous professional surfer who has won numerous competitions such as the Pipeline Masters and the U.S. Open of Surfing. We watched him surf for a bit and he is definitely talented! Needless to say. It was an exciting day at the beach. The rest of the evening was spent watching silhouetted surfers against the gorgeous sunset backdrop.
Awesome write-up!! Thanks for sharing.

Love the photo. It reminds me on Endless Summer. We live on Pacific Beach and there are a couple of days in late August when there is enough humidity to get this orange glow at sunset. Maybe this will be the year we capture a shot like this.
